Check the BMC KB for an article about certain libs that have to moved around on the filesystem when running rkm and midtier on the same host.  I don't remember the exact libs/folders, but what happens is that the midtier app loads a lib as private, and then when rkm needs the lib, it can't be loaded because it's already resident elsewhere.

This doesn't really sound like your problem, but it might help.

If Tomcat fails to start, you correctly point out that a port conflict
could be the cause.  However, Carin suggests that it dies after use, which
rules out a port conflict.
